FIRST TIME?
New to language meetups?
Here's all you need to know.
- 01Strictly vetted
Every host's speaking skills are strictly vetted by the platform
Hosts must speak the language fluently: they either hold a recognised language certificate or pass a review by a native speaker. Only then can they run events on the platform.
- 02
Prices and rules up front
Some meetups are free, others cost a few dozen yuan, usually covering the venue or a drink. Refund rules are shown on every sign-up page.
- 03
Get in with a QR code
Sign up and pay online to get your check-in QR code. Show it at the door — no group chats, no DMs.

FOR HOSTS
Do you run a language meetup?
- Xiaohongshu users sign up and pay directly — no need to move them to WeChat
- Official partner venues: no negotiating, no paying up front
- Sign-up, check-in, ordering and settlement all run on our platform system
- Any city welcome, including hosts outside China
Where can I find an English corner in Shanghai?
Hosts run English corners year-round in Jing'an, Huangpu, Xuhui, Changning, Pudong and other districts. Filter by language in the WalktheTalk mini program on WeChat or Xiaohongshu to see every upcoming session, time and venue.
Do language meetups cost money?
Some are free and some are paid. Hosts set the price, usually a few dozen yuan to cover the venue or drinks. The mini program shows each event's price and refund rules; you pay online when you sign up and show your check-in QR code at the door.
Which languages does WalktheTalk cover?
Foreign languages including English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Portuguese and Thai; Chinese corners for international friends; and Chinese dialects such as Cantonese, Shanghainese, Hokkien and Tibetan. New languages are added as new hosts join.
How do I become a host?
Complete ID verification in the WalktheTalk WeChat mini program and submit a host application. We strictly vet speaking skills: you need a recognised certificate for the language, or to pass a native-speaker review. Once approved, you can publish events, take payments online and check guests in by QR code. We only accept foreign-language (second-language) and Chinese-dialect events. Any city is welcome, including hosts outside China.
Can I search for meetups with an AI assistant?
Yes. WalktheTalk offers a public read-only API and the “WalktheTalk Language Corner” skill on Tencent SkillHub. Install it in WorkBuddy or another SkillHub client and ask “Any English corners in Shanghai this weekend?” to get live event information.
There are no meetups in my city yet. What can I do?
The platform isn't limited to any city. Shanghai has the most events right now and other cities are growing. You're welcome to apply as a host and start a meetup locally — that's the main way we reach new cities.
